In lieu of ASL (American Sign Language) classes, Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf is currently participating in the Deaf Florida Family Literacy Academy. The Academy is an in-home and on site mentoring program offered to families with children who are deaf/hard of hearing. It is possible due to a partnership with the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, with funding from the Alliance for Families with Deaf Children and the Volunteer USA Foundation. Families participating in the Academy receive ASL instruction, instruction on how to read a children’s book in conceptually accurate ASL, language and literacy instruction for children, tutoring for parents, information about community resources and parent-child together activities.
One of the best websites we have found for you to “brush up” on your signing skills is a website designed by Bill Vicars, Ed.D. called www.lifeprint.com.
