ASL Instruction

ASLIn lieu of ASL (American Sign Language) classes, Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf is currently participating in the Deaf  Literacy Center (DLC).  DLC is a countywide library-based literacy program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.  This program is a service of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative and serves all of Pinellas County by providing coordinated administrative services for member libraries.  DLC provides a mentoring program to families with parents and/or children who are deaf/hard of hearing.  Families participating in DLC receive ASL instruction, instruction on how to read a children’s book in conceptually accurate ASL, language and literacy instruction for children, tutoring for parents, tutoring for students, information about community resources and parent-child together activities.

DLC also offers an after school ASL and homework tutoring services to Blossom’s School Age students (grades K-6th) onsite at our school, one day per week week, August-May.  At the beginning of each school year, DLC will provide a flyer to Blossom families offer tutoring services.  If you are interested, please contact DLC directly to sign up your child for tutoring services with a DLC tutor.

One of the best online websites we have found for you to “brush up” on your signing skills is a website designed by Bill Vicars, Ed.D. called www.lifeprint.com.
