Ways To Give

Why Donate to Blossom?

Blossom is just one of a small handful of Montessori schools within the United States and the state of Florida educating deaf students.

With almost 100% of our students receiving some sort of financial aid, there is a significant gap between family tuition and the total cost per student to operate our school.

Blossom is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all charitable gifts are tax deductible in accordance with current tax laws.  The Federal Tax ID number is 42-1589773.  There are many ways to give:

Give the Gift of Stock/ Securities

Gifts of stock are welcomed.  Donating gifts of appreciated securities to Blossom that have been held for more than one year enables you to:

  • Avoid all capital gains tax on the appreciated portion of the stock
  • Qualify for the tax deduction equal to the stock’s full fair market value
  • Make a larger gift than might be possible otherwise

If you sell your appreciated stock first and then give the cash, you’ll pay the 15% capital gains tax on the gain (state taxes may also apply). But if you donate the stock to a charity, there’s no capital gains tax. The charity gets the full $10,000, and you get to claim a $10,000 tax deduction. In this example, if the long-term gain would have been $5,000, you would save $750 versus selling first and then donating cash.  On the other hand, if you’re holding securities at a loss, sell them first and then donate the cash. That way, you can claim the capital loss on your tax return.

Blossom recommends that if you have decided to make a gift of stock, please consult your accountant or financial planner for more information, then contact Blossom’s Director, Julie Rutenberg at (727) 539-7879.  We will not know to expect your gift unless you notify us. We want to note your giving record and properly thank you for your generosity. Transfer instructions will be provided.

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer their employees and retirees a matching gift for their charitable donations. Does your company provide a match?

Planned Giving

The children of Blossom will benefit for years to come with your designation of the school in
your estate planning. The term “planned giving” refers to charitable gifts that require some
planning before they are made. Planned gifts are popular because they can provide valuable tax benefits and/or income for life.

Planned gifts of various types are welcomed. Whether you have cash or other assets, such as real estate, artwork, or partnership interests, the benefits of funding a planned gift can make this type of charitable giving very attractive to both you and to Blossom.

Potential Benefits of Planned Gifts

  • Increase current income for you or others
  • Reduce your income tax
  • Avoid capital gains tax
  • Pass assets to your family at a reduced tax cost
  • Make significant donations to charity

With the assistance of your financial advisor, you can craft a planned gift to meet your charitable and financial goals.

Gifts In Kind

If you wish to make an in kind gift to Blossom, please contact Blossom’s Director, Julie Rutenberg at (727) 539-7879 if you have any questions regarding the options above.
