Blossom is a school that focuses on the individual academic, social and emotional needs of children who are deaf or hard of hearing, hearing siblings and coda's in the Central Florida region. We do this using a Montessori philosophy of educating children. Communication in the classroom happens through the use of ASL (American Sign Language) and CASE (conceptually accurate signed English). ASL is mastered first followed by written and then spoken English. Our primary objective is to reverse the trend of illiteracy for these students. We provide a strong academic foundation and prepare our students to enter a mainstream educational environment when they reach middle school. We believe exposure to a mainstream environment at the appropriate time is the best way for our students to become productive members of society and reach their fullest potential.
The education of any child is a shared responsibility between the home, the community and the school. Parents, as the primary educators, need to be actively involved in the educational experience of their child. Volunteering in the school is an ideal way to achieve this involvement. Those parents who must work or have limited time to offer are grateful for the community of volunteers who can spend their time assisting the students at Blossom. The child and the school will be the beneficiaries of your donation of time. We are grateful for your commitment to the educational well-being of our students. As a Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf volunteer, we are confident you will find challenge and satisfaction.
