Blossom began with a vision. A vision of Julie Rutenberg's of a school where deaf children and their families were given the same opportunities as hearing children. A vision of a school where siblings didn't have to be sent to different schools simply because one of them was deaf or hard of hearing. A vision of a place where all children and their families felt like they belonged and were valued. And above all, a vision of a school where deaf and hard of hearing children, their hearing siblings and hearing children of deaf adults received the same education, if not better, than that afforded to every other child.
Out of this vision grew Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf. Blossom was born in May of 2003 and on August 2 of the same year, we opened our doors for the first time to eight students. One month later our enrollment was up to ten. We were well underway to realizing Julie's vision and have been going strong ever since. During our first year we watched our students blossom and flourish in their new environment. The same phenomenon soon became apparent in the parents. There was a feeling, finally, of the families having a place they felt comfortable. The children's academic interests began to take off and the sparks began to fly. This is the environment we strive to create everyday and through this effort we are never disappointed.
